HMANA Lunch & Learn Series: Winds of Change in the Pennsylvania Woods
Wednesday, November 15 at 12:00 pm EST
The Hawk Migration Association of North America (HMANA) welcomed Dav Brandes for the September, 2023 Lunch & Learn. Hawkwatchers at many sites have been reporting that fall weather and the migration are not what they were back in the day. Dave provided a presentation on investigating whether wind conditions in the fall are indeed changing, and if so, what that could mean to hawk migration and population monitoring with hawk counts.
David Brandes is Chair of the Integrative Engineering program at Lafayette College, where his areas of research are in hydrology, impacts of terrain on airflows, and movement ecology of raptors. He is a life member of HMANA, serves on the steering committee of the Raptor Population Index project, and is also on the steering committee of the Eastern Golden Eagle Working Group, a partnership working to advance conservation of Golden Eagles of eastern North America. He is an avid photographer, eagle-watcher, and father of two teenage boys.
