Wednesday, Oct 16 at 12:00 pm EST

HMANA welcomed Jim Watson to present at our October 2024 Lunch & Learn Series where he featured an enlightening discussion of migration for one of the lesser-known North American raptors across three countries – The Ferruginous Hawk!

Jim Watson, Wildlife Research Scientist with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, presented information from his long-term studies of adult and juvenile hawks from breeding populations in the western states and Canada including concerns related to its status.

Jim Watson is a Wildlife Research Scientist with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and the lead researcher for statewide raptor studies.

He has spent the past 50+ years studying raptors in the western United States and abroad.  Jim’s research focus includes raptor population dynamics, migration ecology, and management of raptors in human landscapes. His recent work evaluates impacts of wind energy and lead contaminants on golden eagles and ferruginous hawks.
