Lunch & Learn Series: Targeting the Threats to Non-Target Raptors

For HMANA’s April 2023 Lunch & Learn, the American Bird Conservancy’s (ABA’s) Hardy Kern joined us to share about the their Pesticides and Birds Campaign, which is dedicated to reducing threats to birds from toxic pesticides and lead, particularly from rodenticides and ammunition. Policy may not seem like the most exciting area, but new studies from scientists, new emphasis from the EPA, and bold statements from the US Fish and Wildlife Service promise to make 2023 an exhilarating year for conservation. We learned about what ABC and their partners are doing to support Hawks and other Raptors and got up to speed on the threats facing birds of prey.

Hardy Kern is Director of Government Relations for ABC’s Pesticides and Birds Campaign. Hardy is an avid birder with a passion for conservation and politics. Hardy holds a BS in Zoology from The Ohio State University and a Master of Public Administration from Kent State University. Hardy also volunteers as a wildlife rehabilitator with Ohio Wildlife Center.
