June 22 at 12:00 pm EST
June’s Lunch & Learn in 2022 featured Nick Alioto, a graduate student in the department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University. He presented his ongoing research on the movement ecology of Red-tailed Hawks that utilize the Straits of Mackinac. Nick touched on how this project started and why he is interested in studying Red-tailed Hawk migration in this area. He also spoke about what we have learned through the first year of tracking Red-tailed Hawks in the Straits region, including information on their breeding and wintering distributions and the migratory routes they use. He also discussed what has been done so far in 2022 and what questions he hopes to answer with his research.
