On June 23rd, HMANA offered another in the virtual lunch & learn series featuring the “GREAT Great Lakes Hawkwatch” project with Rob Spaul. In partnership with the Toronto Ornithological Club, the Ontario Field Ornithologists, the Niagara Peninsula Hawkwatch, Holiday Beach Migration Observatory, Hawk Cliff Hawk Watch, Hawkwatch International, and Birds Canada, HMANA is supporting and recruiting participants for a 2-day dispersed hawkwatch event that unifies the hawkwatch and expert birding communities. Called the GREAT Great Lakes Hawkwatch, they aim to organize and support community scientists in conducting standardized raptor migration counts, outside of traditionally monitored hawkwatch sites, while raising a collective voice for raptor conservation. For those who couldn’t join us live, please enjoy the recording of the session below. Explore HMANA’s annual Spring birding event, Raptorthon! Learn what this event is all about, how to participate and how it supports HMANA’s programs and the network of raptor monitoring sites. We’ll hear from past and current Raptorthoners talking about how easy and fun it is to take part by counting as many raptors/birds as you can while raising funds to support HMANA and for your favorite local hawk watch!
