G Gateus Raptoralium

Team G. Gateus Raptoralium consists of 6 hawk watchers, a small subset of the enthusiastic volunteers of the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory (GGRO). We have various experiences and skills – some can bird by ears, some are dedicated supporters of urban Peregrine Falcons, and some take excellent photos – but we are all excited to experience the spring raptor migrations that is happening near the Marin Headlands. We look forward to find out how many of the 19 raptor species of our fall migration will show up on April 23!

GGRO, a program of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy in cooperation with the National Park Service, was formed in the 1980s. One of GGRO’s missions is to inspire the preservation of raptor population through the long-term study of raptor migration. It is the only accessible fall migration site along the Pacific Coast. Each year, the hawk watch track the migration of 19 species of raptors at the Marin Headlands.  Our hawk watch and banding programs consist of GGRO staff and over 250 volunteer community scientists.
