Broad-winged Hawk
Buteo platypterus

A common to abundant migrant in the east. Major concentration points in the fall are along the northern shores of the Great Lakes. Significant numbers also move through central Massachusetts, western Connecticut, southeastern New York, northern New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania in mid-September. Most converge into large masses in eastern Texas in late September and Veracruz, Mexico in October. A small percentage of the large population provides fair numbers for south Florida and the Keys in October. Uncommon but regular in the west. Spring migrants move back through east Texas in early to mid April, disperse, and then concentrate along the southern shores of the Great Lakes.
